How many filters does it use?The IQAir HealthPro Plus uses a set of three filters, which provides for a 4-stage filtration process which cleans the full spectrum of airborne pollutants. Each of the three filters are manufactured by IQAir in Switzerland to be the very best in each category.
Hyper-HEPA Filter (F3)
Stage 4 - HyperHEPA Filtration. IQAir's HyperHEPA filter is tested and certified to filter dust particles down to 0.003 microns (the world's smallest particle) with a guaranteed minimum efficiency of over 99.5%. This is 100 times better than what can be achieved by ordinary HEPA technology. The Hyper-HEPA filter eliminates bacteria, viruses and combustion particles from automobiles and smoke through a nano-fiber structure. HyperHEPA filtration technology is the safest, healthiest and most effective way to clean the air. Air is filtered with no ozone, no ions, no UV, no chemicals or any other unhealthy byproducts. Unlike the HEPA filters used in conventional air cleaners, the IQAir HyperHEPA filter is manufactured to such a high quality standard that it conforms to the most stringent hospital and cleanroom requirements.
V-5 Cell Gas and Odor Filter (F2)
Stages 2 and 3 - Granular Activated Carbon Adsorption and Pelletized Chemisorption. Patented V5 filtration provides the best solution for gas and odor elimination. The V5 filter combines two types of media - one that adsorbs odors and gases, and another media that changes the pollutant to an oxidized form. Granular activated carbon adsorption eliminates volatile organic compounds (VOC), which are responsible for odors. Pelletized chemisorption destroys harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde by an oxidation process inside a chemically active alumina pellet.
PreMax Prefilter (F1)
Stage 1 - Micro-Particle Filtration. While most air purifiers use small prefilters with particle efficiencies well below 20%, the large, commercial-sized super-efficient IQAir PreMax prefilter typically retains over 90% of coarse and fine dust. The PreMax prefilter is thus the most efficient pre-filter of any household air purifier, allowing the Hyper-HEPA filter and V5-Cell to last up to 5 times longer than similar filters in ordinary air purifiers.

How is the HyperHEPA filter better than ordinary HEPA filters?
Ultrafine particles are smaller than 0.1 microns. By sheer number, about 90% of all airborne particles are this size. The primary source of ultrafine particles is combustion from motor vehicles, refineries, industrial plants and even cooking. Viruses are also ultrafine particles. The small size of ultrafine particles enables them to be easily inhaled, deposited into the lungs and absorbed into the blood. They have been linked to heart attacks, strokes, asthma and even cancer.
Manufacturers of ordinary air filtration systems claim only that their systems filter particles larger than 0.3 microns. IQAir is different. Are the filters washable?The filters in the HealthPro Plus are designed to be replaced when the end of their usable life has been reached. How long do they last?The HyperHEPA filter lasts up to 4 years, the V-5 Cell Gas and Odor Filter up to 2 years, and the PreMax Prefilter lasts up to 18 months. These estimates assume average usage for 10 hours per day on speed 3. Your actual filter life will vary based on usage and environmental conditions.
How do I know when they need to be changed?
Each filter has its own dedicated indicator light to let you know when it needs changing.
How much do the replacement filters cost?On average, the annual filter replacement cost will be around $200, or less than 60 cents/day.
