These portable whole house humidifiers have built-in humidistats which allow you to set your maximum desired humidity level. To ensure that you do not over-humidify (which can cause mold growth), you should keep your indoor humidity level below 65%. Humidistats are controlled with either a mechanical dial, or a digital control panel. Mechanical humidistats with dial controls are simple and easy to use (just turn a dial higher or lower to adjust your maximum desired humidity level). With a mechanical dial model, many customers choose to add a hygrometer to monitor the indoor humidity level, as these models do not display actual room humidity levels. Digital humidistats show a readout of the actual room humidity level, and the digital control panel allows you to set your maximum desired humidity level.
